Every September, millions of people across the globe unite for World Clean-Up Day, a powerful movement dedicated to tackling the urgent challenge of waste pollution. In Nigeria, the Young Advocates for Sustainable & Inclusive Future (YASIF) is once again taking the lead in 2025, organizing a series of activities that go beyond cleaning the environment to inspire new ways of thinking about sustainability. With events spread across communities, schools, and digital platforms, YASIF is ensuring that this year’s campaign leaves a lasting impact.

On September 19th, the activities will begin in Karonmajigi, Abuja, where YASIF will host a large-scale community clean-up and sensitization. Volunteers, youth leaders, and local residents will work hand in hand to clean their surroundings while learning more about the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling. This effort highlights that true change begins at the grassroots level and that sustainable living is not only a global responsibility but also a personal and local one.

The campaign will then continue online on September 20th with the innovative “Waste to Fashion” social media campaign. Unlike typical recycling or upcycling challenges, this initiative will focus entirely on ideas—encouraging young people to think creatively about how waste could be transformed into fashionable or practical innovations. To make it even more exciting, YASIF is introducing a cash prize for the most outstanding idea submitted, ensuring that participants are not only motivated to think outside the box but also rewarded for their contributions. By sparking conversations, collecting creative suggestions, and adding a competitive twist, YASIF is proving that advocacy can be engaging, rewarding, and youth-driven.

Finally, on September 23rd, YASIF will reach the classrooms of Abuja through a school outreach program. This educational effort is designed to engage young learners in discussions about climate change, environmental stewardship, and the role of recycling in building a sustainable future. Through interactive sessions, the students will not only gain awareness but also be motivated to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. YASIF recognizes that the fight against climate change and waste pollution cannot be won without equipping the next generation with the right knowledge and values.

By combining community action, online innovation, and educational outreach, YASIF is proving itself to be a driving force in Nigeria’s environmental movement. World Clean-Up Day 2025 is not just an event but a global reminder that local actions add up to global change. Through its leadership, YASIF is showing that when young people take charge of sustainability, entire communities are transformed. As Nigeria joins the rest of the world in marking this important day, YASIF’s efforts stand out as a model of how passion, creativity, and education can come together to build a cleaner and greener future for all.
